Chapter 7: Training and Development

Training Lists

As this chapter illustrated, there are many ways to learn knowledge, skills, and abilities. You as individuals have learned many things in formal settings, but you have also learned a lot by reading, observing, and asking questions—activities that correspond to those that occur in on-the-job training.

Make a list of all the training and education you have received since high school. Under the heading "Formal," list those courses and programs you have taken as a student or trainee, i.e., learning conducted by an organization. Under the heading "Informal," list all the KSA’s you have taught yourself by reading, observing, listening to tapes, or watching videos. For example, you may have taught yourself word processing, cooking, or effective-listening skills.
